PEYREGRAS BAS
The house dating from the seventeenth century was formerly the home of a wheelwright. It has been carefully renovated to preserve as many of the original features as possible. The original house in the centre has been enlarged by incorporating the outbuildings and ‘charronier’ workshop in the renovation. It is therefore a spacious house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and can accommodate 6 people comfortably.

Peyregras Bas is in a country setting close to Villeréal with a large garden and a covered terrace which is ideal in the hot summer. The fence around the house is only for child security and in no way limits the size of the available property. The house is situated alongside a plum orchard with sloping fields down to the river Dropt, and access is kept open for farm work. Fortified wooden houses like chalets, known as ‘empilages’, dating from the 12-13th. centuries are also unique to this area and the river Dropt, one right next door to your house.

The house – interior

ACCOMMODATION is all on the ground floor level with only a couple of steps down into two of the bedrooms. It is therefore accessible to all ages. The original house is now the living room with a large chimney housing a wood-stove for winter comfort, the old stone sink and exposed antique brick and stone walls. There is a dining area with seating for six. The fully-equipped kitchen also has a small dining area. The original cart-maker’s workshop provides two bedrooms both with double beds. The large bedroom has two additional twin beds on a sleeping balcony if needed. The shared bathroom has a WC and a shower and electric heating. The old cow byres and barn provide the third bedroom with bathroom on suite, which opens from the living room and onto the terrace. There is a double and a single bed in this room and a cot for a baby. This bedroom has an en suite bathroom with a WC and a shower. Equipment in the house includes a music system playing your own CD’s, a television, ironing board and iron, a washing machine and drying facilities, table linen and tea towels.

The house is close to Villeréal, a thirteenth century ‘bastide’ town with a lot of life and character as well as all modern amenities and good supermarkets. For more information about Villeréal, Issigeac and the Dordogne and Lot valleys, see the ‘The Locality’ page.
